“Every night, a bartender hosts a party, seeing to the comfort of guests, occasionally making introductions, and most importantly making sure everyone is having a great time.” Duncan Chase has tended bar at TASTE since 2008. Prior to TASTE, Chase tended bar at Seastar for six years. He was born in Naugatuck, Connecticut, but bounced around New England before he eventually attended Marietta College in Ohio. He comes from an extended family of good cooks, for whom nightly dinner was an important ritual. Cocktail hour before special meals was de rigueur and the younger members of the family were always taught to respect alcohol. Chase, who has been bartending in Seattle for 13 years, draws his inspiration for cocktails from anything and everything. Because he spends much time studying and tasting ingredients, his palate memory is strong and affords him the ability to create interesting cocktails on the spot for his guests. He is also a whisky – or whiskey – maven.
